Mini Sample Size (roughly equivalent to 1/6th pan) a 0.5ml tray measuring about 12mm x 12mm and 6mm deep. Ideal for super tiny palettes or an alternative to dot cards for handmade paint makers. About a third of a standard half pan, or a sixth of a full pan size. Could be overfilled to about 0.75ml. (For reference, half pans are the most common size tray seen in watercolor sets and those are typically 1.5ml).

Quarter pan size with curved edges. Outer edges measure 15mm x 19mm and 5mm deep (half the depth of a standard half pan). This option fills the same footprint space / container slot as a half pan (it's just more shallow/less tall). Ideal for selling more affordable options of expensive pigments that will still fit well into most travel palettes alongside half pans. The fill estimate is 0.75ml underfilled or 1ml full.

Q&A Please note that pan sizes and wall thickness vary by brands. I can only recommend these pans for those building their own custom palette from scratch, or making handmade watercolors - not to specifically fit into a certain pre-made container. For instance Winsor and Newton custom make smaller half pan sizes, so their containers may require special pans. Sorry, I have not found gansai xl empty pans available for sale anywhere. While the fill line is technically the top edge, it's considered variable. Some companies overflow their pans, while others fill just below the top of the pan, some even dispense a set amount of pigment and if it shrinks later you get a sunken-in shriveled paint cake. If exact ml is a concern, I recommend a pipette or medical blunt syringe for determining precise amounts.
