Rainbow looms above 75 year old pastoralist Shake Abudho as she gazes out of her traditional Gabbra shelter in Kalacha. This was shortly after one of the first rainstorms which broke the devastating three-year drought in the region. Many of the Gabbra who would normally be living a nomadic life have set up their portable shelters on the outskirts centres like Kalacha where there is access to food aid because they have lost most of their animals which would normally be providing their livelihood. For many of the Gabbra, the relief of the these rains have come too late to help. Shake Abudho and her family are only able to avoid starvation thanks to the monthly food supplies that they receive as part of a food aid distribution organised by CIFA, which is supported by Concern Worldwide. | Location: Kalacha, Marsabit District, Eastern Provi, Kenya.
